Newport Ventures held an informative Builder Roundtable in Rochester, NY and also toured Gerber’s high performance Build Green. Live Green. home. The purpose of the roundtable was to bring together our builder partners to discuss practical strategies to building high performance homes. In addition to the builder participants from several regions of the state, we had representatives from NYSERDA and building product manufacturers join the roundtable. The group focused on strategies to significantly improve the building shell while also integrating new technologies and building processes into their typical production environment. Beyond a great deal of technical information exchange, the roundtable also explored marketing energy efficiency and communicating its benefits to home buyers.

Successful projects benefit from information exchange, so Newport has scheduled a few roundtable discussions between builders and manufacturers involved in the challenge to be held at key interims. This initial roundtable discussion, hosted by the Capital Region Builders and Remodelers’ Association, was used to provide project background information, education on various energy conservation measures, and served as an excellent forum for sharing information. Presentations covered such topics as highly insulated foundations, continuous foam insulation, high performance windows, and high efficiency HVAC systems.
